Often the next step in our lives
begins as a subtle feeling;
something sensed
before it is fully understood

You might be feeling...
People come to counselling for different reasons, including:
-
anxiety or overwhelm
-
depression or low mood
-
trauma or difficult past relationships
-
relationship difficulties
-
feeling stuck or lost in life
-
work stress or burnout
-
low self-esteem or self-criticism
-
facing a life transition or loss
-
neuro-diversity
-
identity questions

You might have an unclear sense of 'something' that feels wrong in your life. As we turn toward that together, it can open up, and show you how to move forward.

You don't have to have it all figured out. Therapy can begin simply with whatever you are experiencing now.

How counselling can help
My approach is person-centred and experiential, influenced by Focusing (developed by Eugene Gendlin)

This means we'll not only talk about problems, but also listen carefully to what's going on inside you as we talk. We might explore:

-
thoughts and emotions
-
sensations and the 'felt sense' of situations
-
different parts of you that might have very different ideas about what you should do
-
how to soothe and support yourself when things feel difficult
Understanding what our body is telling us, can help make sure we are with the thing that really needs our attention.

I draw on approaches such as
-
Focusing-oriented therapy
-
Parts work
-
Body-based awareness
-
Trauma-informed
Rather than analysing you or telling you what to do, I help you check in with your ‘felt sense’ of situations so that we can gently listen to your body’s wisdom and let this guide your decisions, so that change can arise naturally.
About me
Hello, I'm Catherine. I'm an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I'm based in Bristol, offering in-person and online sessions. I have many years of experience supporting people through complex and difficult life experiences.
When I hit a rough period in my life, I needed to learn skills to better manage my own pain and shape the life I wanted going forward. That’s why I incorporate powerful body-based practices such as Mindfulness, Focusing, and Non-Violent Communication. These approaches help you to develop self-compasssion, and as a wise person once said:

"When I accept myself fully as I am, then I can change"

By offering you my warmth and presence, I can help you look at your life and the underlying causes of problems. I’m ready to meet you as you are and listen to you in a way that helps you feel more yourself again. We’ve got as long as you need.

What working together looks like
We'll agree a regular time to meet, usually weekly. Sessions last 50 minutes.

You can work with me in-person in Bristol BS5, online on Zoom, or by phone from anywhere in the UK.

Fees are from £60-£75 per session. You can pay personally, or I take clients through a number of insurance companies, see below.

Some people come for a short time, others stay longer as the relationship deepens and they get more from the work we do together.
In the first session we explore what brought you here and what you're hoping for from counselling. There's no pressure, just a chance to make a start together.

I work from my home near St Marks Road in Easton. You will find parking available in nearby streets, or we are just off the Bristol-Bath Cycle Path and Stapleton Road Train Station.

Opting for an online or phone appointment sometimes enables you to take up an appointment sooner than face-to face.

Online Counselling

Many people find online counselling a practical alternative to working face-to face.

We use Zoom for online meetings, or talk on the phone.
You can access this anywhere you have a private and safe place to talk. This works well for people working from home, or taking a lunch-break during work.

You have all the benefits of seeing each other but with the convenience of being in your own place.
